Along this line in the design of statistical production systems, the following projects carried out by Instituto Movatur are worth mentioning:

Methodological and/or referring to a set of operations

Data management system of the Navarra Statistical Plan operations. Navarra Statistical Institute (IEN).

Projects concerning the characterisation of the production system of the Andalusia Statistical Plan operations. Andalusia Statistical Institute.

Training courses in statistical production processes for statistical units in ministries of the Basque Government.

A large number of courses and seminars offered to staff working in statistics departments: 1st Central American Seminar on Statistics Essentials and Tourism Satellite Account (Guatemala, 2007) and 2nd Regional Seminar on the Importance of Harmonisation of Methodologies for the Development of National Tourism Statistical Systems (San Salvador, 2009).

Project for harmonisation of tourism statistical systems in South American countries, commissioned by the Inter-American Development Bank.

System for harmonisation of border surveys in CA4 countries Department for Central America's Tourist Integration.

Projects for different sectors

We will not provide specific information here on each and every industry but we would like to mention the most relevant, both for their complexity and because they required design in all stages. Theoretical and operational designs leading to application.

Socio-demographic area: Population and activity survey in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (PRA survey, Eustat). It is a socio-demographic survey of the economically active population carried out according to ILO and Eurostat standards using household samples.

This survey is contained in the survey on household equipments and ICT (useful to carry out two complementary statistical operations that share sources).

Economic area: Input-output accounts and tourism satellite accounts involving statistics syntax that requires managing and relating a huge amount of information sources, checking and assessing available information, and designing essential operations. Replication in the future is being studied.

Mobility & transport area: Global mobility and transport demand characterisation in a geographical area (our latest study was carried out for the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in 2011) using a multiplicity of complementary sub-operations like survey and travel patterns on motorways for all means of transport, and demographic surveys as well.

Tourism industry

In addition to the development of methodological projects for the harmonisation, checking and design of tourism statistical systems and the courses offered to staff working in the area, we prepared tourism satellite accounts and our consultants participated in the design and development of statistical systems for the calculation of travel demand and cross-border flow of travellers.

The goal of this system is to quantify and characterise travel demand and expenses. In its development relations between administrative records and special surveys were used.

This project, which was carried out according to the methodological standards recommended by the World Tourism Organisation, was implemented in Spain by the Institute for Tourism Studies, and our team participated in its development in Central American countries.
